<span style=”color: #222222;”>Piazza del Popolo (the “People’s Square”) is an impressively large square in Rome, just below the <em>Pincio</em>, one of the best spots to head to for a splendid view over the city. At the square’s center, there stands one of the tallest and second oldest obelisk in Rome, brought from Egypt in the 10th century BC. </span><span style=”color: #222222;”>But Piazza del Popolo is not only a square known for some <strong>great people watching</strong>, it is also a place rich in art and history. It offers three wonderful <strong>Baroque churches</strong>: Santa Maria del Popolo, Santa Maria in Montesanto and Santa Maria dei Miracoli. </span>Santa Maria del Popolo is situated near the magnificent entrance of the gates to the historical center. It is <strong>full of masterpieces</strong> and most certainly deserves a visit. Here you will find two stunning paintings by <em>Caravaggio</em>, bright frescos by <em>Pinturicchio</em> and elegant statues by <em>Bernini</em>. It is an excellent starting point for all the passionates of the arts! The other two churches are called “the twin churches”, and are a lovely example of late 17th century architecture. Piazza del Popolo is a <strong>wonderful home base</strong> for visitors; your apartment here is near everything you’ll want to make your stay an extra special one.
